I apologise if this isn't the appropriate section to post this, but I could not find a better one.
I'm running Visual Basic 6.0 sp6 IDE on two Windows 7 64bit systems. They have worked flawlessly until last Monday.
Now I have a problem only on ONE of them: I cannot use the Windows Common Controls 6.0 in the VB6 IDE.
Existing projects are unable to load all the references and new projects won't allow me to add the Common Controls in the components.
This happens only in the VB6 IDE, compiled executables work fine.
The error I get when I try to add the Common Controls in the IDE is a generic 'File not found'.
If I run the IDE with administrator privileges or WindowsXP compatibility mod, the error message becomes 'Object library not registered'
The strange part is that:
1) One computer was used on Sunday 31st is now unable to use the Windows Common Controls in the VB6 IDE.
2) Another computer was off from Friday 29th to Monday 2nd is not having any problem at all.
It seems related to the MSCOMCTL.OCX and/or its dependencies. I tried a few combinations of all those steps:
- Reinstall the IDE
- Deregister and register again the OCX
- Using brand new files taken from the working system
- Manually deleting all the entries in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTTypeLib{831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-0000F8754DA1}
- Performing a reboot between each steps
None of the above worked, in any combination.
Now the 'stranger' part:
If I change the system date to March 30th, the VB6 IDE allows the Common Controls again. Switching back to today's date, brings back the problem.
During the night between the 30th and 31st, the Daylight Savings Time switched, my guess it that this and the fact the computer was used on Sunday 31st, is somehow related to the problem.
As I've been adviced in another thread (where an user is experiencing my same situation, with 4 systems out of 10, with the same symptoms), I'm asking if this problem could be forwarded to Microsoft if this is possible.
Thank you in advance.
